Salmon is the ordinary name for various species of ray-finned fish in the family Salmonidae. Its scientific name is Oncorhynchus tshawytscha. Mostly it is found in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans or inland lakes like the Great Lakes. Salmon species are anadromous. They take birth in fresh water voyage to sea and return back to reproduce. Salmon production can be done by two methods; farming and wild sources. BY FARMING Salmon farming was started in 1960 and grew substantially in past years. Commercially available, Atlantic salmon is always farmed. Approximately world 60% of salmon production is farmed. Salmon production by farming takes three years for completing one cycle. For the first year, salmon production takes place in restraining freshwater atmosphere. These farmed salmon than are transported to seawater cages. Once they reach the desirable size they are shoved to processing plants to be prepared for sale. BY RANCHING This method of salmon production is safe but less controllable. Salmon is raised in hatcheries till it is old enough to become independent. Then it is released to river to endeavor salmon population. This method is normally adopted by a government or non-profitable organizations. The demand for salmon is increasing in connection with the increase in population. As we all know fish is a great source of protein and salmon farming fish is the great choice as it has not only a high level of omega 3 content but also have vitamins and minerals. Salmon production industries play an important role in maintaining the healthy and continuous protein production and in managing the demand of growing population effectively.
